Barbare Breaks NCCU Golf Season Scoring Record

PHILADELPHIA – North Carolina Central University redshirt junior golfer Daniel Barbare broke the school record for single-season scoring average by ending the year with three rounds in the 70s during the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship on May 2-4 in Philadelphia.

Barbare, out of Raleigh, North Carolina, opened the tournament with a 1-under-par 71 at The Union League Golf Club at Liberty Hills, then registered rounds of 75 and 79 to finish in a tie for 13th place on the leaderboard.

His 2021-22 scoring average of 73.94 broke the record held by Jordan Bohannon, who averaged 74.15 during the 2017-18 campaign.

He cut more than two strokes off his average from a season ago, when he tallied 76.0 per round.

NCCU senior Travis Jackson (Laurinburg, N.C.) posted his career-best score of 69 (-1) during Tuesday's second round at The Union League Golf Club at Torresdale, when he rolled in five birdies on the day. Jackson added rounds of 81 and 76 to tie for 16th place.

Fellow senior Jesper Gullstrand (Vellinge, Sweden) closed out his college career by carding two birdies and an eagle in Wednesday's final round en route to a 77. On his final hole, Gullstrand hit his approach shot out of the bunker to within three inches of the hole, tapping in for birdie. He finished the event in 48th place (82-86-77).

NCCU sophomores Kendall Wallace (Blythewood, S.C.) and Trey Morse (New Orleans, La.) placed 42nd (77-78-82) and 43rd (74-82-83), respectively.

As a team, NCCU tied for seventh place out of 10 teams with scores of 303, 304, and 314.
