Jade Houston picked up a singles win for the North Carolina Central University women's tennis team in a 6-1 non-conference road loss to Campbell University on Wednesday.
Houston won her second straight match to prevent the shutout.
The Camels improved to 12-7 on the season with the triumph while the Eagles slipped to 4-13.
Houston secured her win in the second position in NCCU's lineup. Houston knocked off Marissa Pennings in a three-set affair by a score of 6-4, 0-6, 1-0 (10-7) for her seventh singles win of the season.
The Eagles lost the other five singles matches in straight sets, including freshman No. 1
Kennedy Hill (L, 2-6, 4-6), sophomore No. 3
Maria Picazo (L, 4-6, 1-6), freshman No. 4
Isabelle Exsted (L, 3-6, 0-6), senior No. 5
Hannah Gaines (L, 0-6, 3-6) and freshman No. 6
Anaiah Jones (L, 0-6, 1-6).
Campbell only lost two games in the two completed doubles matches to secure the first team point.
NC Central will next play its last home match of the season when the Eagles host Fordham University on Saturday, April 9 at noon.
