GREENVILLE, N.C. – Senior catcher/first baseman
Madison Mifsud hit another home run to highlight play for the North Carolina Central University softball team in a 9-1 non-conference road loss at East Carolina University on Tuesday afternoon.
The Pirates ended an 11-game losing streak to improve to 20-29 on the season. ECU belted out 15 hits in the triumph, including a team-best three base knocks off bat of junior leadoff hitter Taudrea Sinnie to set the tone for the victors.
After ECU scored the opening run in the first, Mifsud tied the contest with her solo home run in the top of the second inning. Mifsud launched her fourth homer over the left field fence. She has now hit home runs in consecutive games.
The Pirates broke open the contest with five runs in the third, which featured a two-run homer by sophomore Taylor Woodring and a two-RBI double by freshman Logan Sutton. ECU then tacked one run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to complete the run-rule victory.
Freshman
Jaden Davis had NCCU's second and final hit with a single with one out in the third. Sophomore
Hailey Batista drew a pair of walks for the maroon and gray.
NC Central (11-31) will next play its last MEAC series of the season at Morgan State University on Saturday-Sunday, April 30-May 1.
