NORFOLK, Va. – Sophomore
Jaylah Barr collected two of NCCU's three hits and drove in the only maroon and gray run as the North Carolina Central University softball team suffered a 9-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference road loss at Norfolk State on Saturday.
The Spartan finished off a series sweep with the run-rule victory in five innings as six of NSU's eight hits were for extra bases, including three home runs and three doubles.
Senior Tuli Iosefa hit a home run in each of the first two innings as the hosts never trailed in the contest. Iosefa finished with five RBI.
Norfolk State improved to 27-14 on the season and moved into a tie for first place in the league standings with a 12-3 mark against conference competition as the Spartans extended their win streak to 11 games..
Barr, who doubled in the first inning, drove in NCCU's run with a single in the third that plated freshman
Jaden Davis.
Davis started that frame with a single and she also swiped her team-leading ninth stolen base before scoring on Barr's hit. That hit helped Davis keep a batting average over .400 in league play.
NC Central (9-28, 6-9) will next host North Carolina A&T State University in a rescheduled game at Thomas Brooks Park on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
