NCCU Men’s Golf Posts Historic Scores at Bash at the Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's golf team registered several historic scores during the Bash at the Beach event, hosted by Appalachian State University at the Surf Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach on Monday and Tuesday.

NCCU junior Daniel Barbare (Raleigh, N.C.) posted a career-best 3-under-par 68 in the second round on Monday, which is the lowest score by an Eagle in four years and tied for the third-lowest round in program history. His final round of 70 provided Barbare with the second-best 36-hole total (138) in the NCCU records book, trailing only Brian Demby's 135 in 2005. Barbare finished the event with a three-round total of 214 (+1) to tie for 43rd place on the individual leaderboard.

As a team, NCCU's second-round tally of 292 ranks third in program history, accounting for the Eagles' best team score since the 2015-16 season.

The squad's 36-hole total of 589 (292+297) in the second and third rounds ties the school record established in the 2015-16 season, while the team's 54-hole total of 897 is third-best in program history.

NCCU senior Travis Jackson (Laurinburg, N.C.) shaved 20 strokes off his career-best three-round total by recording a 224 with rounds of 77, 74, and 73, to place 71st.

Sophomore Kendall Wallace (Blythewood, S.C.) also achieved his career-low three-round score at 225 (75-73-77) to tie for 72nd place.

Jesper Gullstrand tied for 90th place (80-77-83=24) and Trey Morse finished 94th (80-86-77=243).

In the competitive team standings, NCCU placed 13th (308-292-297=897) out of 15 teams.

Up next, the Eagles visit Bryan Park in Greensboro for the Aggie Invitational on March 28-29.
