NCCU’s Thomas Continues Reign as MEAC Rookie of the Week


NORFOLK, Va. – Freshman guard Diamond Thomas picked up her third consecutive MEAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week award and fifth of the season after averaging 17 points per game in North Carolina Central University's two road games in Baltimore last week, as announced by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Tuesday, Feb. 15.
 
Thomas scored a team-high 20 points at Morgan State University on Saturday and then added 14 points at Coppin State University on Monday.
 
The Knightdale, North Carolina, product has scored in double digits in 10 straight games.
 
Thomas is the second leading scorer in the MEAC with a season average of 13.7 points per game.
 
However, that average has increased to 17.8 points per game against conference competition.
 
On the week, Thomas drilled seven three 3-pointers. Thomas first poured in a trio of treys against the Bears and then she swished four more triples against CSU.
 
Thomas also ranks second in the league with 2.5 made 3-pointers per game.
 
The MEAC has announced Thomas as the Rookie of the Week five times: Nov. 30, Jan. 11, Feb. 1, Feb. 8 and Feb. 15.
 
NC Central next hosts Delaware State University. The Eagles will entertain the Hornets inside McDougald-McLendon Arena on Saturday during "Pink Day" at 2 p.m.
