NCCU’s Kiaku Named MEAC Rookie of the Week


NORFOLK, Va. – The North Carolina Central University freshman guard Jerni Kiaku was announced as the first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the 2022-23 season as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Nov. 15.
 
Kiaku is coming off a season-high, 16-point performance and she leads the maroon and gray with 12.7 points and 3.0 steals per game over the first three games of the season. Kiaku is alos averaging 3.0 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game.
 
The Garner, North Carolina, resident is shooting 50 percent from 3-point distance, making a team-high five trifectas over her first three collegiate contests.
 
Kiaku scored 13 points, including a trio of made 3-pointers, in NCCU's win over Johnson C. Smith. She then filled up the box score with nine points, eight rebounds, five steals and three assists at FIU before capping off her first week with 16 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals against Campbell.
 
NC Central next plays at Rutgers University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
