NCCU’s Harper Tabbed MEAC Player and Rookie of the Week


NORFOLK, Va. – Freshman Kamren Harper racked up 16.5 points in a 3-0 win in North Carolina Central University's lone match of the week, earning the rookie outside hitter a pair of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference weekly awards.
 
Harper was announced as the MEAC Player and Rookie of the Week after posting a match-high 11 kills and a season-best five service aces in a 25-11, 25-10, 25-10 road win at South Carolina State University on Sunday.
 
The Simpsonville, South Carolina, native returned to her home state to record 11 kills on just 17 attempts with just two errors for a season-best hitting percentage of .529.
 
Harper is averaging 10 kills per match in NCCU's first three league tilts, helping the maroon to a 2-1 start against conference competition.
 
On the week, Harper averaged 3.7 kills and 1.7 aces per set on the way to her first collegiate weekly awards.
 
Harper currently ranks 10th in the MEAC with 2.4 kills per set on the season.
 
NC Central will next play three consecutive home matches this week, beginning with a non-conference showdown against Elon University on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
