NCCU’s Tori Wilson Named MEAC Rookie of the Week


NORFOLK, Va. – Freshman middle blocker/right-side hitter Tori Wilson was announced as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Rookie of the Week on Monday after posting 13 kills in both of North Carolina Central University's match over the week of Oct. 17-23.
 
Wilson averaged 3.3 kills per set with a .351 hitting percentage on the week. Her back-to-back 13 kill performances led the Eagles in both contests.
 
In Friday's 3-0 home win over Morgan State University, Wilson finished with 13 kills with a .500 hitting percentage along with one ace and one block. She followed that up with 13 kills, five digs and four blocks in a five-set affair against MEAC frontrunner Coppin State University on Sunday.
 
Wilson, who hails from Allen, Texas, ranks second on the team and 11th in the MEAC with 2.32 kills per set. She also sits ninth in the MEAC with a .244 hitting percentage.
 
In her first 20 collegiate matches, Wilson has reached double-digit kills in seven matches. Five of those seven double-figure performances has come in NCCU's nine conference tilts for an average of 2.58 kills per set in league play.
 
Wilson is the second NCCU player to earn MEAC Rookie of the Week honors, joining classmate Kamren Harper (Oct. 3).
 
NC Central (5-15 Overall, 4-5 MEAC) will next play at Delaware State University on Friday at 4 p.m.
