NORFOLK, Va. – Freshman guard
Diamond Thomas scored a team-high 18 points in North Carolina Central University's league opener Monday evening to garner Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week honors for a second time this season, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday, Jan. 11.
Thomas came of the bench and drilled four 3-pointers on the way to her team-best 18 points against Norfolk State University. She shot 44.4-percent from behind the arc in the first MEAC tilt of the season for both programs.
The 18 points matched her season-best performance, which Thomas first accomplished in a road game at James Madison University on Nov. 24. Her quartet of swished 3-pointers was a season-high game total for the sharpshooter.
On the season, Thomas leads the Eagles with 13 made treys as she ranks eighth in the MEAC with 1.4 made 3-pointers per game. Thomas also moved into the top-10 of the league in scoring, currently ranking ninth in the conference with her average of 9.9 points per game.
Thomas has scored in double digits in two straight games and has done so a total of four times in her rookie season.
The Knightdale, North Carolina, resident earned her first MEAC Rookie of the Week honors on Nov. 30.
Thomas and the Eagles are next scheduled to play at MEAC rival South Carolina State University on Saturday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m.
