Eagles Drop Final Two Matches at Campbell Invite


BUIES CREEK, N.C. — Sophomore setter Lauren Janok was named to the Fairfield Inn & Suites Dunn Campbell Invitational All-Tournament Team after averaging 8.67 assists, 3.00 digs and 1.17 blocks sets for the North Carolina Central University volleyball team in a pair of 3-0 losses on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Eagles slipped to 1-3 on the season after being swept, 3-0, by both James Madison University and Campbell University.
 
NC Central will next play at UNCG on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
 
MATCH ONE: James Madison 3, NC Central 0
 
The Dukes hit .262 for the match and finished off a perfect 3-0 performance in the Campbell Invite with the 25-19, 25-21, 25-19 victory. James Madison improved its record to 5-1 on the season
 
Janok completed her third straight double-double to start the season with 30 assists and 10 digs.
 
NCCU kept all three sets close with a balanced attack that included nine kills apiece off the arms of senior Arlanda Faulkner and junior Abby Vacha. Senior Celene Morris added eight kills for a second straight match and senior Ammaarah Williams tallied seven kills.
 
Sophomore Alyssa Pieh chipped in a match-high 17 digs.
 
Junior Sophia Davis paced JMU with 16.5 points, including team-best totals of 11 kills and seven block assists. Classmate Caroline Dozier set up the Dukes hot-hitting attack with 34 assists.
 
MATCH TWO: Campbell 3, NC Central 0
 
The Camels held off the Eagles by scores of 25-21, 25-15 and 25-18 in the final match of the two-day event. Sophomore Chloe Cook led the victors with 13 kills while senior setter Madee Miner contributed 20 assists and six of Campbell's eight aces.
 
Faulkner registered eight kills as she has led the maroon and gray in kills for a third time in NCCU's first four matches. Williams followed with six kills.
 
Janok was two digs shy of another double-double, finishing with a match-high 22 assists and eight digs. Pieh logged a team-best 15 digs.
 
Campbell holds a 2-4 overall record after its home tourney.
