NCCU Men’s Tennis Opens Season with Four Wins at the Elon Invite

ELON, N.C. — Senior Sebastian Pino netted singles and doubles wins for the North Carolina Central University men's tennis team in the first fall competition of the season when the Eagles participated in the Elon Invitational at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center over the weekend of Sept. 24-26.

Pino was one of three Eagles to win their opening singles match of event that consisted of five different singles flights. Pino topped Richmond senior Josh Keitelman to begin play in the Powell Flight.

Pino partnered with sophomore Stipan Madzar for NCCU's lone double triumph, a 7-6 (4} over a tandem from UNCG. Pino and Madzar also went to a tiebreaker in their opening match, but lost that one by the same score.

Senior Miles Clark competed in a pair of three-set battles in the Phoenix Flight. Clark rallied for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 triumph over UNCG senior Roger Rogowski to advance to the second round before being outlasted 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 by N.C. A&T junior Esteban Lopez.

Sophomore Shaka Cristellotti claimed the other maroon and gray win in the White Flight. Cristellotti downs N.C. A&T freshman Frits Loogman by matching 6-4 set scores before being eliminated by Radford sophomore Guilherme Severin (6-1, 6-3).

NC Central will next compete at the Dr. Robert Walter Johnson Memorial Invitational Tennis Championship hosted by Virginia State University on Oct. 15-17.
