Eagles Coast to a Senior Day Triumph over S.C. State

DURHAM, N.C. — All five North Carolina Central University seniors had big contributions in a dominating 25-5, 25-6, 25-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Southern Division victory over South Carolina State University inside McDougald-McLendon Arena Wednesday afternoon.

The Eagles recognized their senior class of five before NCCU's home finale. That quintet all started in a contest the Eagles only lost 15 total points.

Senior outside hitter Hana Lee (Centreville, Va.) served up a career-high five aces and tallied four digs and three kills. Senior outside hitter Jasmine Sanders led all players with nine kills and senior middle blocker McKayla Young followed closely with eight kills. Senior defensive specialist Braxton Wright saw action all over the court and chipped in five digs, two kills, one ace and one assist. Senior Yomaries Villegas finished with eight assists and three assists while logging a kill for a second straight match as a libero.

NCCU won the first 15 points of the match, started the second set with nine unanswered points and then tallied 14 straight points at the start of the third set. The Eagles never trailed in the match.

Lee was instrumental in the 15-0 and 14-0 runs to start the first and third sets with five aces on her service rotation during those two outbursts. NCCU had a dozen total aces in the match, including a pair by freshman Lauren Janok in the 9-0 run to begin the middle set.

Janok finished with 13 assists and junior Celene Morris registered 14 assists as NCCU finished with a .470 team hitting percentage. Junior Ammaarah Williams added six kills and two blocks assists before recording the assist on the match-point kill by Morris.

The Lady Bulldogs were held to just three kills as S.C. State finished its season at 0-8. Junior Tyra Luckett had two kills and six digs.

NC Central (4-2 Overall, 4-2 MEAC) will conclude regular season play with one match at North Carolina A&T State University on Sunday at 4 p.m.
