NORFOLK, Va. — North Carolina Central University freshman Jade Houston has won four consecutive singles matches, helping her earn both Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Tennis Player and Rookie of the Week honors as announced by the league office Wednesday.
 
Houston won both of her singles matches last week at third position in the NCCU's lineup.
 
To begin the week, Houston tallied her third consecutive win in a home match against UNCG on Wednesday. She rallied to defeat senior Emily Ory by a score of 4-6, 7-6 (1), 6-1.
 
Houston followed that up with a win in NCCU's league opener at North Carolina A&T State University on Saturday. She cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 conquest of freshman Florielvis Hurtado Pernaleta as the Eagles defeated the Aggies 5-2 to begin league play 1-0.
 
The local Raleigh resident has leveled her singles record in her first season with the maroon and gray. Houston is tied for the team-lead with four singles wins.
 
Houston joins a growing list of Eagles to have collected MEAC weekly tennis awards. She becomes the 10th MEAC Player of the Week and sixth MEAC Rookie of the Week for NCCU sixth-year head coach Tom Schrecengost.
