DURHAM, N.C. — For a second straight non-conference game, the North Carolina Central University women's basketball team will make a three-hour trip to play a team for only the second time in program history when the Eagles head to Richmond, Virginia, to battle Virginia Commonwealth University on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The Eagles are looking to get in the win column still as they continue a season-long, eight-game road swing to start the season. NCCU (0-2) is coming off an 80-66 loss at Appalachian State University on Sunday.
Senior forward
Ashlyn Lockard has paced the Eagles in scoring in each of NCCU's first two games for a team-best 12.0 points per game with a .615 field-goal percentage. She is also second on the team with 7.5 rebounds per game.

Tianna Carter with 8.5 rebounds per game, sophomore
Paris McBride with 3.5 assists per game, sophomore
Taylor Williams with 3.0 steals per game, freshman
Nia Ford with 1.0 blocks per game and junior
Madalyn Anderson with 1.5 made 3-pointers per game.
Senior
Necole Hope, who is a Preseason All-MEAC Third Team selection, is chipping in 10.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.
VCU BENCH:
The defending Atlantic 10 champion Rams were dealt a 54-46 home loss in their season opener to Middle Tennessee State University on Friday. VCU (0-1) is picked fourth in the A10 this season after winning the league tourney for the first time last season as the fifth seed.
Taya Robinson is a Preseason All-A10 First Team honoree after leading the Rams in scoring and rebounding last season. However, she was held to five points and six rebounds in her season debut.
Senior Janika Griffith-Wallace, who averaged 7.0 points per game last season, paced VCU with 17 points against the Blue Raiders. The Rams return four of their five starters from their championship team last season, including sophomore Sarah Te-Biasu, who matched her season average last season with 11 points against MTSU. Te-Biasu was an All-A10 Rookie Team honoree last year. Junior Mykel Parham, a transfer from Creighton, made an impactful VCU debut with a team-high 14 rebounds.
SERIES:
The Eagles are playing VCU for on the second time in program history. The Rams won that that home contest, 80-44, early in NCCU's transition from DII to DI on Dec. 21, 2008.
