DURHAM, N.C. — The North Carolina Central University women's basketball team will make the three-hour trip to Boone, North Carolina, to play Appalachian State University for the first time since 2007 when the two team's tipoff on Sunday at 2 p.m.

NC CENTRAL BENCH:
The Eagles are coming off a 73-56 road loss at University of Illinois in their season opener on Tuesday. NCCU (0-1 Overall) is on an eight-game road swing.
The Eagles had several upperclassmen set new career-best totals in their season debut against a Power Five conference program.
Senior
Ashlyn Lockard, who scored a team-high 11 points, also had a career-best total of eight rebounds. Sophomore
Tianna Carter made her NCCU debut with career-highs of seven points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore
Taylor Williams added a career-high five steals for the Eagles.

Necole Hope, tallied eight points against the Illini. Hope is a 2021-22 Preseason All-MEAC Team selection. Sophomore
Paris McBride was NCCU's top passer in her rookie season and she continued that form with a team-best four assists against Illinois.
APP STATE BENCH:
After picking up a season-opening 75-41 home win over DII program Lees-McRae College, the Mountaineers are coming off a narrow 61-57 road loss at Mercer University on Thursday. App State (1-1) was picked sixth out of 12 teams in the Sun Belt Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Junior guard Janay Sanders, who averaged 6.7 points per game last season, is coming off a career-high 22 points performance against the Bears to take the early team scoring lead with an average of 15.5 points per game.
Senior Michaela Porter, sophomore Faith Alston and freshman Emily Carver are all averaging 10 points per game through two contests. Carver and Alston top App State's 3-point shooters while Porter, who is a Preseason All-SBC Third Team selection this season, is ASU's top returning scorer and rebounder. Porter once again leads the Mountaineers with 8.0 rebounds per game. Porter also has a knack for stealing the ball, leading the team in thefts for a second straight year.
SERIES:
The Eagles are playing App State for only the second time in program history. In NCCU's first season transitioning from DII to a DI program, NCCU lost to 91-62 in Boone on Nov. 16, 2007.
