NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month: Pablo Juez Torres

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University senior Pablo Juez Torres has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for June 2020 in recognition of his outstanding performance on the court and in the classroom.
 
Juez Torres is a four-year letter winner for the Eagles. He competed in 56 dual matches for the maroon and gray and has totaled 15 singles and 14 doubles victories. Juez Torres highlighted his collegiate career with three consecutive singles wins against Loyola University Maryland, Howard University and Norfolk State University before the 2020 spring season was canceled due to Coronavirus threat.
 
The Barcelona, Spain, native was named the NCCU Debra Saunders-White Leadership Award winner for men's tennis each of the last two seasons and has been a yearly ITA Scholar-Athlete and MEAC All-Academic Team honoree.
 
Juez Torres, who completed his degree at NCCU in just 3 1/2 years, finished with a 3.85 cumulative grade point average (GPA) as a business administration major with a concentration in finance. He next plans to pursue a master's degree and get a job in his field. Juez Torres finished in the top-10 percent of both his business class and graduating class of 2020.
 
As a preferred walk-on, Juez Torres worked his way to earning an athletic scholarship and eventually becoming a team captain. His favorite moment with the Eagles was going to Savannah, Georgia, to defeat Florida A&M University and Bethune-Cookman University on back-to-back days to advance to the MEAC Men's Tennis Championships as the No. 2 seed in 2019.
