Dragovic Wins in Lady Eagles Loss to the Lancers

DURHAM, N.C. — Sophomore Ivana Dragovic earned a singles win for the North Carolina Central University women's tennis team in a 6-1 non-conference dual match loss to visiting Longwood University Saturday afternoon.

The Lancers, who won the other five singles matches in straight sets, won the match that was moved to the Elmira Park Tennis Courts due to wet court conditions on campus from Thursday's snow storm.

Longwood bounced back from its first loss of the season to improve to 4-1. The Lady Eagles dipped to 1-4 on the season.

Dragovic (2-3) earned her second singles win of the season at the fifth position in NCCU's lineup. She knocked off sophomore Crystal Nzewi by a 6-0, 6-2 margin.

Also playing for the Lady Eagles were junior No. 1 Frida Cnossen (6-1, 6-1), junior No. 2 Maru Berghaus (6-4, 6-3), sophomore No. 3 Hannah Gaines (6-2, 6-4), senior No. 4 Sofia Miller (6-3, 6-2) and junior No. 6 Polina Sakharova (6-0, 6-0).

The Lancers took all three doubles matches. In the tightest affair, Nzewi and sophomore classmate Emma Nurgazieva held off Miller and Sakharova by a score of 6-4.

NC Central is next scheduled to play at East Carolina University on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 3 p.m.
