NORFOLK, Va. — Senior forward
Paulina Afriyie earned her third Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) weekly award of the season after the league announced her as the Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
Afriyie posted a pair of double-doubles in two road conference clashes and averaged 14.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game on the week.
In a 58-44 win at Coppin State University Saturday, Afriyie was a defensive force with 12 rebounds, three blocks and one steal. She also tallied 11 points to complete the double-double.
Afriyie followed that up with 17 points and 12 rebounds in a close clash at Morgan State University on Monday.
The resident of Bronx, New York, has eight double-doubles on the season and 25 in her collegiate career.
Per the latest NCAA statistics report through games Feb. 10, Afriyie leads the MEAC with a 53.3-percent field goal percentage while ranking third in the league with 8.7 rebounds per game and seventh in the conference with 1.13 blocks per contest.
Afriyie, who has named MEAC Player of the Week on consecutive weeks earlier in the season (Dec.31 & Jan. 7) has now earned MEAC Defensive Player of the Week laurels four times over the past three seasons.
As NCCU's leading scorer at 13.8 points per game, Afriyie has scored in double digits in all 10 MEAC games for the Eagles this season.
