SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Wofford College posted its second straight 7-0 win, defeating visiting North Carolina Central University on Saturday to remain flawless on the early season.
The Terriers (2-0) won all six singles matches in straight sets.
NCCU's initial dual-match singles lineup consisted of junior No. 1
Frida Cnossen, junior No. 2
Maru Berghaus, senior No. 3
Sofia Miller, sophomore No. 4
Hannah Gaines, sophomore No. 5
Ivana Dragovic and junior No. 6
Polina Sakharova.
Cnossen had the biggest test while playing atop the Eagles lineup against junior Jenna Vroman, who is a reigning First Team All-SoCon honoree and the 2018 SoCon Freshman of the Year. Vroman toppled Cnossen with matching 6-1 set scores.
Berghaus and Sakharovia had NCCU's most competitive singles matches in identical 6-2, 6-4 losses to sophomore No. 2 Liz Massie and sophomore No. 6 Ansley Harderman, respectively.
Wofford took the initial point with 6-3 doubles wins on courts one and three. The middle doubles bout proved the closest of the day with junior Kay Kluska and sophomore Lillie Steryous outlasting Berghaus and Dragovic by a 7-5 margin.
NC Central will next visit Gardner-Webb University on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
