DURHAM, N.C. — All six Lady Eagles easily won their singles matches in straight sets as the North Carolina Central University women's tennis team coasted to a 7-0 non-conference victory over visiting University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Thursday afternoon.

Sophomore No. 1 Maru Berghaus, junior No. 3 Sofia Miller, sophomore No. 4 Polina Sakharova, freshman No. 5 Ivana Dragovic and junior No. 6 Emily Pena all won by perfect 6-0, 6-0 scores.

Reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Freshman of the Week Hannah Gaines easily coasted to the other singles win. Junior Michal Kittrell recorded the Shore's only game won in that 6-0, 6-1 loss to Gaines, who was moved up one position in NCCU's lineup.

Dragovic notched her fifth singles victories while Berghaus, Gaines and Sakharova all secured their fourth wins. Miller got in the win column for a third time and Pena was victorious for the first time in only her second singles match of the season.

The Lady Eagles used a pair of 6-0 wins to quickly win doubles. Miller and Pena moved over .500 on the season with their No. 3 conquest while Berghaus and Dragovic tallied their third triumph on the middle court. Gaines and sophomore Frida Cnossen were leading their No. 1 doubles match, 3-1, when play was stopped.

NCCU improved to 5-8 as the maroon and gray has won three of their last four games. The Eagles are a perfect 3-0 against women's tennis programs from MEAC member institutions. The Hawks fell to 0-2.

NC Central will next play three consecutive MEAC Southern Division matches in Savannah, Georgia.
