GREENSBORO, N.C. — The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team won eight of the nine matches contested on Wednesday in rolling to a 6-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division win on the road at archrival North Carolina A&T State University.
The Lady Eagles improved to 3-7 on the season and begin league play at 1-0. The Aggies remained winless on the season at 0-10 overall and 0-2 in the MEAC.
NCCU started the day by sweeping doubles. Junior

Sofia Miller were the first Lady Eagles in the win column with a 6-1 win. Sophomore

Ivana Dragovic clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win. Sophomore
Frida Cnossen and freshman
Hannah Gaines completed the flawless doubles play for NCCU with a 7-5 win.
Pena and Miller are 4-4 as doubles partners to pace the maroon and gray.
NCCU wasted little time to secure the team victory with straight set wins by a quartet of Lady Eagles. Gaines knocked off junior Renata Ruiz Rabadan 6-0, 6-2 for the most lopsided win on court three. Sophomore No. 5
Polina Sakharova followed with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over freshman Brenna Bryant before Dragovic clinched the match in favor of the visitors with a 6-3, 6-4 No. 6 conquest of freshman Kaya Ellis. Berghaus was the fourth Lady Eagle to win in straight sets with her 6-4, 6-2 No. 2 victory over senior Angelica Martinez.
Freshman No. 4 Marlene Estenssoro outlasted Miller by a narrow 6-3, 6-7 (5), 11-9 margin to secure the N.C. A&T's lone point.
Cnossen ended the day with a hard-fought 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 comeback win atop NCCU's lineup over senior Fabiana Ramirez. Cnossen has won three straight matches and moved over .500 on the season at 5-4.
NC Central next travels to play Charlotte on Friday at 1 p.m.
