DURHAM, N.C. — The North Carolina Central University women's basketball team will battle Savannah State University for sole possession of eighth place in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) standings when the Eagles and Lady Tigers tipoff inside McDougald-McLendon Arena on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Rodneysha Martin and guard
Caira Benton before the showdown of what very well may be a potential first-round MEAC playoff match-up in a couple weeks. Fans are encouraged to arrive by 1:45 p.m. for the senior day presentation.

NCCU (7-19, 4-9) committed a season-high 29 fouls and were outscored 24-9 in the fourth quarter in an 80-70 road loss at Howard University on Monday. Martin and junior forward
Paulina Afriyie lead the Eagles in scoring as they both average just over 13 points per game. Afriyie also tops NCCU with 9.1 rebounds per game.
Savannah State (6-15, 4-8) is coming off a 68-47 home loss to Bethune-Cookman University on Monday. Freshman Myasia Jones ranks eighth in the MEAC with 14.4 points per game. The Lady Tigers pace the league with over 13 steals per game with Jones and sophomore Jacquece Alston combining for over six thefts per contest. Alston is SSU's second leading scorer as well at 8.4 points per game.
NCCU slipped past Savannah State, 71-61, in the first meeting this season on Jan. 28. Martin made four 3-pointers on the way to a game-high 21 points. Junior
Shontai Totten – who is coming off a strong game at Howard (15 points, 5 assists, 2 steals) – scored a season-high 16 points in the win against the Lady Tigers. Afriyie has eight double-doubles on the season and just missed one after filling up the box score with seven points, nine rebounds, five steals and four assists. Jones paced the Lady Tigers with 19 points.
