GAME NOTES: #NCCUMBB Faces First Road Tests in MEAC Play

DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina Central University will face its first road tests in league play as it heads north to face Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State on Saturday, Jan. 12 and Monday, Jan. 14, respectively.  The Eagles started MEAC play 1-0 after a 68-59 victory over Bethune-Cookman on Saturday, Jan. 5 inside McDougald-McLendon Arena in Durham.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS
Maryland Eastern Shore fell in its opening two matches in league play after opening up on the road at Morgan State before hosting Howard.  Ryan Andino leads the Hawks with 10.4 points per game, and is currently shooting 31.4 percent from the arc.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Delaware State also dropped its first two games of the year, falling at Norfolk State and then at home against Coppin State.  Kevin Larkin has been pushing the Hornets by averaging 17.8 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.

Raasean Davis had a career day on Dec. 30 against Wilberforce when he became the first 30+ point scorer since 2016 with 34 in his 40th career double-digit scoring performance at NCCU.  He was 15-for-16 from the floor (93.8%) and also collected a double-double with 11 rebounds.  The last 30+ point scorer was Patrick Cole with 32 at Northern Kentucky on Nov. 26, 2016.
 
LUCKY 13-13
Raasean Davis and Larry McKnight Jr. combined to make history on Jan. 5 against Bethune-Cookman as the pair combined to go 13-for-13 from the floor, becoming the first duo to record 100% FG with a minimum of five FG attempts in the Division I era.  Davis was 7-for-7 for 16 points and 12 rebounds, and McKnight was 6-for-6 with 12 points.
 
HIGH EFFICIENCY
Raasean Davis had a remarkable two-game stretch against Wilberforce and Bethune-Cookman where he combined to shoot 22-for-23 from the floor for 50 points and 23 rebounds.  Over the two games, Davis shot 95.7 percent from the floor, and he currently leads the MEAC and is fourth in NCAA DI at 68.4% FG.
 
STICKY FINGERS
North Carolina Central University tied a Division I school record with 23 steals against Christendom on Nov. 28, matching the mark set against Johnson & Wales on Nov. 12, 2012.  Redshirt freshman Nicolas Fennell also recorded eight steals to tie for second-most in a single game in the DI era.

NCCU shot over 50 percent in back-to-back games for the first time since 2017 when the Eagles shot 62.9 percent against Warren Wilson and 51.1 percent at George Mason for a two-game percentage of 57.0 with 67 made field goals.  The Eagles did it again on Nov. 24 and 28 against Southern (53.1%) and Christendom (58.3%) for a combined 55.7 percent.
