DURHAM, N.C. — The Lady Eagles will play their busiest schedule yet under third-year head coach Jody Brown as the North Carolina Central University volleyball program announced a 28-match schedule for the upcoming 2018 fall regular season.

The slate will feature 10 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) matches and 18 non-conference tilts, with the 28 total contests being five more tilts than a year ago and six more than in 2016.

NCCU will play in four tournaments over the course of its first five weekends. The Lady Eagles will open up in the season at the ISTAP Collegiate Cup, where the MEAC versus SWAC challenge style event has been moved to the LakePoint Champions Center in Centersville, Georgia. NCCU will play four teams from the Southwestern Athletic Conference that weekend of Aug. 24-25 against Alabama State University, Alabama A&M University, Mississippi Valley State University and Jackson State University.

The Lady Eagles will return to a pair of familiar events in the Phoenix Classic hosted by Elon University (Aug. 31-Sept. 1) and the Hampton Inn Holly Springs Invitational hosted by Campbell University (Sept. 14-15). NCCU will play in a trio of matches both weekends, battling the Phoenix, Gardner-Webb University and University of Evansville in Elon and the Camels, Loyola University Maryland and Mercer University in Buies Creek. The Lady Eagles first visit Campbell's campus for a neutral-site match against Wright State University on Saturday, Sept. 8.

The final weekend event will feature the maroon and gray playing a pair fellow league foes from the Northern Division in non-conference showdowns on Sept. 21-22. NCCU will play co-host Coppin State University and Delaware State University in the MEAC North-South Challenge in Baltimore, Maryland, that will also include matches on the campus of Morgan State University.

NCCU will make its home debut in McDougald-McLendon Arena on Sunday, Sept. 2 against East Carolina University. The Lady Eagles will play a total of nine home matches this season, which is the most since nine in 2015. Other non-conference home tilts include showdowns with Charlotte (Sept. 11), Davidson College (Oct. 9) and Elon (Oct. 17).

Admission is free for all home contests. Fans can first get a look at the team in a pair of home scrimmages, first against Shaw University on Aug. 18 and then hosting its annual Maroon and Gray intrasquad game on Aug. 28.

The Lady Eagles will play the Pirates for a second time on Sept. 25 in Greenville, North Carolina, for NCCU's lone true non-conference road game (not involving a tournament or neutral site).

MEAC play will once again consist of 10 matches, playing the other five Southern Division rivals in home-and-away series. The Lady Eagles will begin league play by hosting Bethune-Cookman University (Sept. 28) and Florida A&M University (Sept. 30). NCCU will then have to play its next five conference matches on the road in October before hosting its final three. The Lady Eagles will entertain Savannah State University (Nov. 2) and South Carolina State University (Nov. 4) on the University's Homecoming Weekend. NCCU will conclude the regular season by hosting archrival North Carolina A&T State University on Thursday, Nov. 8.

The 2018 MEAC Volleyball Championship will have a new host in Howard University. The Bison, who are the three-time defending champions, will entertain the top four teams from both the Northern and Southern Divisions in Burr Gymnasium in Washington, D.C., on Friday-Sunday, Nov. 16-18. The Lady Eagles have advanced to the quarterfinals each of the last two years.
