NCCU’s Vashion Johnson Reaches 200 Career Wins

DURHAM, N.C. — North Carolina Central University head coach Vashion Johnson picked up a milestone victory this past weekend as he recorded career win No. 200 on Friday.

The Lady Eagles secured the landmark win for Johnson in dramatic fashion. NCCU trailed host Gardner-Webb University by five runs early in the Red and Black Tournament, but rallied to force extra innings and eventually won 7-5 in eight innings.

Johnson added his 201st win with a 4-1 triumph over Marist College on Saturday.

The Veteran Marine is in his 10th season as an NCAA softball head coach and second at NCCU. Johnson, who coached his first eight years at Slippery Rock University from 2004-2011, has averaged nearly 22 wins per season over his first nine completed years.

The Eagles made a five-game improvement to their overall record and qualified for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Championship Tournament for the first time in Johnson's first season at NCCU in 2017.

North Carolina Central (4-8 Overall) has won four of its last six games.
