DURHAM, N.C. — The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team was swept 7-0 in its home opener Saturday afternoon to Western Carolina University.
The Catamounts only lost five games in doubles and then produced straight-set victories in all six singles matches to complete the sweep.
Senior
Jamie Rogers was involved in two of the closer matches on the day. Rogers lost her top-positioned singles match to freshman Jordyn King by narrow set scores of 6-4 and 7-5. Rogers also played in the No. 1 doubles match with freshman
Polina Sakharova and they took a 6-2 loss to junior Savannah Taranto and sophomore Jordan Strickland.
Western Carolina improved to 2-1 with its second straight triumph.
Strickland and freshman Carli Deehr remained undefeated on the early season for the Catamounts. Strickland topped freshman No. 2
Maru Berghaus by a 6-2, 6-3 margin and Deehr had a flawless 6-0, 6-0 performance against senior No. 6
Lauren Mullis. They both moved to 3-0.
NCCU (0-3) next hosts Radford University on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m.
