DAVIDSON, N.C. — Junior
Gabriel Cucalon picked up his first singles win of the season to highlight play for the North Carolina Central University men's tennis team in a 6-1 road loss at Davidson College Friday evening.
The Wildcats won the other four singles matches contested and doubles play as Davidson improved to 6-3 on the season.
Cucalon topped a three-time First Team A-10 all-conference selection in senior Shamael Chaudhry. Cucalon (1-4) topped Chaudhry (6-2) in straight set scores of 7-5 and 6-2.
Senior No. 1 Artem Khrapko, sophomore No. 3 Thomas Mason and sophomore No. 4 Axel Fries all only lost four games apiece in their singles victories for the Wildcats. Senior No. 5 David Hager had the most impressive Davidson win by a 6-2, 6-0 margin.
The hosts won the bottom two doubles bouts by matching 6-1 scores to take the early advantage.
NCCU (0-5) next hosts Campbell University.
