DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University picked up an 83-66 win over Howard to cap off a winning weekend at McDougald-McLendon Arena on Monday, Feb. 19.
NCCU (14-13, 8-5 MEAC) just about led wire-to-wire for a second consecutive game as the Eagles scored first before Howard (8-21, 5-8 MEAC) tied the game for the only time at 2-2. The Eagles led by double-digits in both halves, but the Bison were able to trim the deficit on the way to the half as NCCU led 37-30 midway through.
The Eagles opened the second half on a 7-0 run to move ahead 44-30 and that set the tone for the rest of the game. NCCU led by as many as 17 on the way to a 83-66 final score, the second consecutive win for the Eagles by 15 points or more.
Jordan Perkins (Greensboro, N.C.) motored the Eagles with his second career double-double – both coming within the last three games – as he recorded a career-high 14 assists with 13 points.
Dominique Reid (Sicklerville, N.J.) followed his strong game from Saturday with a career-high 16 points as he was a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor and was also 2-for-2 from the free throw line with eight boards. NCCU had three other players in double-digits as
Larry McKnight, Jr. (North Miami, Fla.) collected 11 points, Reggie Gardner, Jr. (Bowie, Md.) recorded 12, and
Raasean Davis (Chicago, Ill.) put in 10 points.
R.J. Cole (Union, N.J.) had a game-high 24 points for the Bison, and his backcourt teammate Charles Williams (Richmond, Va.) followed with 18 points.
NCCU assisted 23 times on 32 made baskets, and shot a season-best 57.1 percent from the field. The Eagles also shot 56.3 percent (9-16) from downtown and 90.9 percent (10-11) from the charity stripe.
The Eagles travel south for its final regular season road trip of the year, starting on Saturday, Feb. 24 at South Carolina State.
