ORANGEBURG, S.C. — The middle blocker tandem of senior Whitney White and freshman Morgan Goodwin combined for 24 points in leading the North Carolina Central University volleyball team to a 3-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Southern Division sweep of host South Carolina State University Sunday afternoon.
 
The Lady Eagles used a .276 team hitting percentage – their second best attacking performance of the season – to coast to the 25-22, 25-17, 25-12 triumph. NC Central (4-12 Overall, 2-2 MEAC) next hosts Davidson College in a non-conference contest Tuesday afternoon at 5 p.m.
 
NCCU HIGHLIGHTS & STATS:
 
Goodwin and White supplied seven kills apiece. Goodwin added three aces and four blocks (one solo, three assists) to finish with a match-high 12.5 points. White followed closely with seven blocks (two solo, five assists) for 12.5 points.
 
Reigning two-time MEAC Rookie of the Week Arlanda Faulkner topped the Lady Eagles with nine kills while sophomore Christine Alcox matched Goodwin and White with seven spikes.
 
Freshman setter Isis Mitchell filled up the box score with 26 assists, seven digs, three aces and two block assists. Classmate Celene Morris made a team-best nine digs.
 
SOUTH CAROLINA STATE HIGHLIGHTS & STATS:
 
Sophomore Alexus Holt and freshman Kyra Marshall provided nine and eight kills, respectively. Marshall also tallied 16 assists and four blocks (two solo, two assists). Sophomore Erin Hundley had a match-high 11 digs while also serving up three aces.
 
SC State slipped to 1-17 on the year and 1-2 in league action.
 
SET-BY-SET:
 
1ST: The opener was the only set in which the Lady Bulldogs ever held a lead as both squads hit over .220 in the game. SCSU was leading 20-15 before NCCU closed with a 10-2 rally to slip past the hosts by three points. Goodwin started the rally with a kill and two aces before White recorded a block on set point. 
 
2ND: The Lady Eagles quickly doubled up SC State, 10-5, and four Faulkner kills helped the visitors coast to the 8-point conquest.
 
3RD: NCCU slammed down 12 on 23 attempts with just three errors for a .391 hitting percentage as the Lady Eagles flew away to the 12-point win. The period was never in question as the maroon and gray won the first 11 points.
