NCCU to Host Annual Athletics Awards Program “The Eddies”


DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University Department of Athletics will host its annual awards program, "The Eddies," on Tuesday, May 2 at 7 p.m. inside B.N. Duke Auditorium on the campus of NCCU. The event is open to the public with free admission. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
 
The awards program, named in honor of NCCU's mascot Eddie the Eagle, will recognize student-athletes who have demonstrated outstanding athletic and academic performance.
 
The NCCU Department of Athletics will present Most Valuable Player, Academic (student-athlete with highest grade point average) and Leadership (recognizing leadership, sportsmanship and pride) awards to chosen student-athletes from each team. Presentations will also be made to the male and female student-athletes of the year (LeRoy T. Walker award), the student-athlete with the highest overall grade point average (Chancellor's award), the newcomer and comeback player of the year awards, and the teams with the highest grade point average (Faculty Athletic Council award).  Special awards will also be given to graduate assistants, sponsors and donors of NCCU Athletics.
 
The NCCU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be presenting individual awards that have been voted on by the student-athletes.
