Jasmine Gabriel netted a three-set win to account for North Carolina Central University's lone team point in a 6-1 road loss against Appalachian State University at the Deer Valley Racquet Club on Saturday.
The Mountaineers won the other five singles matches in straight sets. Appalachian State improved to 4-9 overall.
Gabriel moved to 2-6 on the season with her triumph at the No. 3 slot in the Lady Eagles' lineup. She finished off junior Melissa Machado by a seesaw score of 6-4, 1-6, 6-2.
Sophomore Heidi Swope had the toughest singles win for the Mountaineers, needing an extended second-set tiebreaker to edge junior
Jamie Rogers in a 6-2, 7-6 (11-9) affair.
ASU started the contest by winning the bottom two doubles matches to collect the first team point.
NCCU (0-8) next plays at Elon University on Saturday, March 11 at 9:30 a.m.
