DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University softball team will play its second straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Southern Division road weekend series when the Lady Eagles battle Savannah State University on Saturday and Sunday.

The Lady Eagles have lost their last five games. They were swept in their first MEAC series at defending champion Florida A&M University last weekend and also lost a mid-week doubleheader to Drexel University. NCCU is 5-22 overall and 0-3 in the MEAC.
After scoring only three runs over the last five games, NCCU is last in the MEAC with a .194 team batting average. Junior pitcher
Lauren Sitterson is the only Lady Eagle batting over .300. She sports a .318 average and is 7-for-14 (.500) over her last six games.
NCCU's other pitchers also carry quality bats for the maroon and gray. Seniors
Dominique Wilson and
Jennifer Allison follow Sitterson with .246 and .219 averages. Wilson has team-best totals of two home runs and seven RBI.
Wilson (4-11, 4.48 ERA, 59 SO, 84.1 IP), Sitterson (1-6, 6.53 ERA, 16 SO, 49.1 IP) and Allison (0-5, 9.15 ERA, 9 SO, 26.0 IP) all may see time in the pitcher's circle for the Lady Eagles.
NCCU has been swept by Savannah State in each of the past two seasons, last defeating the Lady Tigers on April 6, 2014.

The Lady Tigers are winless on the season after losing MEAC Player of the Year Torrian Wright and their best pitcher in First Team All-MEAC honoree Amanda Hallman from a year ago. Reigning MEAC Rookie of the Year, sophomore third baseman Cortni Jones, has also not played since Feb. 19. She was batting .571 thru the first nine games.
Savannah State is 0-24 overall and 0-3 in the MEAC after being swept by Bethune-Cookman University last weekend.
Senior outfielder Alexis Singleton highlights play for SSU this season. Singleton – a Second Team All-MEAC selection in 2016 – is batting .389 with four triples, 10 RBI and nine runs scored this year.
Junior pitcher Chelsea Malcolm, who is 0-3 on the rubber, also sports a strong average of .385 in limited plate appearances. Amanda McDowell (0-9) and Faith Dickerson (0-12) have toss most of the Lady Tigers' innings. SSU's pitching staff has a 14.14 ERA (last in the MEAC).
