Jamie Rogers picked up a victory in the marquee singles match to highlight play for the North Carolina Central University women's tennis team in a 6-1 loss to UNC Asheville Saturday afternoon at the NCCU Tennis Courts.
Rogers rallied to win her top draw match against sophomore Hannah Francisco. After dropping the first set, 7-5, Rogers forced a decisive frame by winning the second set, 6-4. She then outlasted Francisco, 11-9, in a third-set superset.
The Cary, North Carolina, resident leads the Lady Eagles with four singles wins.
Asheville moved over .500 at 9-8 overall. The Bulldogs won the other five singles matches in straight sets.
The visitors secured the first team point with 6-4 and 6-0 wins in the bottom two doubles matches. Rogers and senior partner
Lynsey Cover were in a 5-5 battle in the other doubles contest when play was stopped after the doubles team point was determined.
NCCU (2-12) resumes Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Southern Division action at archrival North Carolina A&T State University on Tuesday at Noon.
