Lady Eagles Celebrate Senior Day Saturday

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's basketball team will conclude the home portion of its schedule this week when the Lady Eagles host Bethune-Cookman University on Saturday's Senior Day and Savannah State University on Monday.

N.C. Central Women's Basketball
The Lady Eagles had a season-best, three-game win streak snapped on the road last week, losing at Maryland Eastern Shore (73-51) and Howard (62-48). NCCU (6-19 Overall, 5-8 MEAC) is currently in a three-way tie for ninth place in the league standings and is 5-7 at home in McDougald-McLendon Arena.
Senior guard
Morgan Jones continues to pace the Lady Eagles with her averages of 12.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.7 assists per game. Jones also leads the MEAC in free throw percentage at 84.3% and matched her career-high of 25 points in last week's game against the MDES Hawks.
Sophomore
Dominique Adams, who paces the league with 36.4 minutes played per game, is second on the team in both scoring (6.4) and rebounding (4.8). Freshman
Jada Blow hit a career-high six 3-pointers on Monday against Howard to increase her season average to 6.3 points per game. Sophomore
Deja McCain is a third NCCU player averaging just over six points per game and she leads the squad with 5.4 rebounds per game. Senior
Chantal Thomas is handing out a team-best 2.1 assists per game, sophomore
Rodneysha Martin is chipping in 5.4 points per game and freshman
Paulina Afriyie is pulling down a team-best 6.5 rebounds per game in league play.
NCCU dropped both of its games to Bethune-Cookman last season and split a pair of games against Savannah State, with the home team winning each contest.
Bethune-Cookman Women's Basketball
The Wildcats are the frontrunners in the MEAC and can clinch the outright regular season league title for a second straight year with a win against the Lady Eagles on Saturday. Bethune-Cookman (16-9 Overall, 12-1 MEAC) has won seven straight games.
Senior center Kailyn Williams is a three-time All-MEAC honoree and the defending MEAC Defensive Player of the Year. Williams currently ranks in the top-10 of the league in blocks per game (4.0/1st), field goal percentage (47.4%/3rd) and rebounds per game (8.0/6th) while leading the team with 10.2 points per game.
Sophomore guard Ashanti Hunt (12.9) and senior guard Kendra Cooper (11.5) are both averaging double-digit scoring for the Wildcats in conference competition.
Bethune-Cookman swept NCCU by scores of 63-46 (Durham, N.C.) and 62-50 (Daytona Beach, Fla.) last season.
Savannah State Women's Basketball
The Lady Tigers have lost their last two games to Morgan State and Coppin State to drop into a two-way tie for seventh place in the MEAC standings with North Carolina A&T, who Savannah State (10-16 Overall, 7-6 MEAC) will play at on Saturday before visiting Durham on Monday.
Senior guards Kenyata Hendrix and Lauren Moss lead the Lady Tigers in scoring with 11.6 and 10.7 points per game, respectively. Hendrix also leads the team with 2.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
Another senior in center Tiyonda Davis is third in the team in scoring (8.0 points per game) and ranks four the MEAC with 8.9 rebounds per game and second in the league with 3.8 blocks per game.
Savannah State handed NCCU 57-39 road loss last season, but then fell to the Lady Eagles, 65-61, in McDougald-McLendon Arena.
