NORFOLK, Va. — A career-high performance by
Jayla Calhoun in the Eagles opener earned the North Carolina Central University junior guard Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors announced by the league office Tuesday, Nov. 17.
Calhoun scored 25 points in leading NCCU to an 87-75 home victory over Longwood University on Tuesday.
Her career-high point total, which bested her previous high of eight points by 17 points, helped secure a victory in first year head coach

Calhoun had a hot hand against the Lancers, shooting 66.7-percent (8-of-12) from the field and 90% (9-of-10) from the free throw line.
The Houston, Texas, product complimented her offense with eight rebounds, three blocks and two assists.
Calhoun becomes the second Eagle to earn MEAC Player of the Week since NCCU joined the league in 2011 (Khyra Conerly on Nov. 17, 2014). The Eagles have had six MEAC Rookie of the Week and five MEAC Defensive Player of the Week.
NCCU (1-1) is coming off a road loss at Wofford College on Nov. 21. The Eagles next host 18th-ranked Oregon State University on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
