CHARLESTON, S.C. – North Carolina Central University amassed 14 hits and out-scored Charleston Southern University 6-1 in the final six innings, but the Buccaneers scored the game's first eight runs then held on for a 9-6 victory over the Eagles on Tuesday night.
Charleston Southern (8-5) jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the first inning and four more in the third for an 8-0 cushion.
NCCU (7-6) answered the challenge with two runs in the fourth, another in the fifth and three runs in the ninth, but CSU turned a key double-play in the final frame to end the Eagles' threat.

Ellington Hopkins went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI double and a walk with the bases loaded, while also scoring a run to account for half of NCCU's run production. Senior infielder
