ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Sophomore Kert Kilumets picked up a straight-set victory atop North Carolina Central University's lineup in a 6-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) road loss at South Carolina State University on Thursday afternoon at the Hardeep Judge Tennis Courts.

The Bulldogs, who have won the last seven MEAC Tournament titles, were victorious in the other four singles matches contested in straight sets to pick up the conference win. SCSU moved over .500 on the season at 7-6 and leveled its conference ledger at 1-1.

After surviving the first set in a 7-3 tiebreaker, Kilumets coasted in the second set to complete his conquest of SCSU sophomore Jakub Vitek. Kilumets won his fourth match atop the Eagles lineup by a final score of 7-6 (3), 6-3.

Kilumets was not as successful in his first tiebreaker of the day in doubles action. Kilumets and senior partner Thomas Persico extended their doubles battle before falling 7-6 (7-4).

NCCU (1-12 Overall, 0-5 MEAC) is still scheduled to host Averett University on Friday at 1 p.m. The match will be postponed if inclement weather does arrive in the Durham area in the morning.
