Lady Eagles Drop Match at Defending MEAC Champs

Box Score

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Senior Mia Ramic and sophomore Jamie Rogers both won their fifth straight singles matches for visiting North Carolina Central University in a 5-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) women's tennis loss at Bethune-Cookman University on Tuesday morning at the City Island Tennis Center.

Ramic, who moved up to the No. 2 singles position in the lineup for only the second time this season, also won in doubles with junior partner Lynsey Cover.

The Wildcats won doubles and then used four singles wins to stay undefeated in the conference. Bethune-Cookman (9-9 Overall, 3-0 MEAC) is the defending MEAC Tournament champions.

Ramic started her day with a 6-2 triumph in the middle doubles match with Cover. However, the Wildcats took the other two tandems, 6-1 and 6-4, to secure the first team point.

The Split, Croatia, product followed up that doubles performance with a gutsy 7-5, 7-5 victory on court two over sophomore transfer Matea Roki. Rogers, who is from Cary, North Carolina, also got in the win column from the fourth slot in the lineup by knocking off B-CU rookie Hilary Hanton.

Ramic (5-5) and Rogers (6-4) are both a perfect 4-0 in MEAC Southern Division matches.

Cover went three sets in her No. 6 singles match before slipping to Karen Romero (6-2, 2-6, 6-0).

In a battle of two 2015 First Team All-MEAC honorees, reigning league Player of the Year Mina Matsuba edged NCCU senior Aissa Muamba in two very close sets (7-6, 7-5).

NCCU (3-8, 2-2) will next embark on a four-match homestand over the next few weeks.
