Aissa Muamba and sophomore
Jamie Rogers went undefeated for the North Carolina Central University women's tennis team in a 5-2 road loss to host Campbell University on Saturday afternoon at the James R. Nesbit Tennis Center.
Muamba and Rogers both picked up the first singles wins of the season.
Muamba won the marquee singles match in decisive fashion, disposing of Campbell sophomore Irina Karangozishvili by a 6-0, 6-4 margin.
Rogers had to work harder for her conquest in the fourth slot in the lineup. Rogers lost the first set before rallying to win a marathon match over senior Maud Mrad in a third-set tiebreaker by a score of 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (11-9).
The Camels won the other four singles matches in straight sets after edging NCCU in doubles to secure the team win. Campbell boasts a 5-1 record after keeping the Lady Eagles out of the win column at 0-4.
Sophomore No. 2 Georgina Segarra, freshman No. 5 Isabel Boada and senior No. 6 Ewa Telenga highlighted play for the victorious Camels with wins in both singles and doubles.
Muamba and Rogers partnered together for a 6-4 victory in the top doubles bout but the Camels secured the first team point with 6-2 and 6-3 wins in the other two doubles encounters.
NCCU concludes a three-match road swing at UNC Asheville on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m.
