BOX SCORECONWAY, S.C. – Sophomore
Kert Kilumets was the only North Carolina Central University men's tennis player to nearly win a set against a strong Coastal Carolina University squad in a 7-0 non-conference dual match loss Friday afternoon at the Coastal Carolina Tennis Complex.
The Chanticleers improved to 5-1 with their fourth consecutive win. The Eagles slipped to 0-2.
Kilumets was leading his second set 5-4 before Coastal Carolina junior Jabor Al-Mutawa rallied to force a tiebreaker. Al-Mutawa went on to win tiebreaker 7-2 to complete the 6-4, 7-6 win in the top draw and stay undefeated on the season at 6-0.
Coastal Carolina did not lose more than two games in any other singles set to complete shutout.
A pair of 6-1 wins in the top two doubles draws started the team scoring for the Chanticleers.
NCCU only played five players, forfeiting No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
NCCU will conclude an overnight road trip to the coast with another match in Conway, South Carolina, against Georgia Southern University on Saturday at Noon.
