DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's basketball team will play at local foe North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, for the first time in program history on Wednesday when the two teams tipoff in the newly renovated Reynolds Coliseum at 7 p.m.
NCSU will be proving a video broadcast of the contest on the ACC Network Extra via ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app along with live stats. N.C. Central Women's Basketball
The Lady Eagles suffered their fourth consecutive loss on Sunday, dropping a 61-27 tilt at Purdue University. NCCU (1-6 Overall) is still winless on the road at 0-4.
Freshman guard
Jada Blow, who did not play on Sunday, has made an immediate impact for the Lady Eagles. She has not started a game yet, but is playing the second most minutes (30.2). Blow tops NCCU with 10.7 points per game – including 1.8 made 3-pointers – and 3.0 assists and 2.8 steals per contest.
The maroon and gray has four players averaging between 5-9 points. Senior guard
Morgan Jones leads the convocation with 8.9 points per game and is followed by sophomore forward
Deja McCain (6.6 ppg), sophomore guard
Dominique Adams (6.3 ppg) and freshman forward
Erin Houser (5.3 ppg). Jones, McCain and Adams also average around five rebounds and one steal per contest.
NCCU is making more steals than its opponents (63-49) and committing three less turnover per game than last year. However, the Lady Eagles' 27.7-percent field goal percentage is down five percent from a year ago.
Wednesday's contest will be the first between the two programs whose gyms are only 23 miles apart.
N.C. State Women's Basketball
The Wolfpack have won three straight games and are coming off an 86-54 triumph over UNCW on Sunday. NCSU (8-2 Overall) is a perfect 7-0 at home.
Four seniors and one junior have showcased the Wolfpack's starting lineup.
The senior guard duo of Miah Spencer and Dominique Wilson headline the veteran pack as Second Team All-ACC performers as juniors in 2015-16. Spencer is bucketing 11.2 points per game while leading NCSU with 4.2 assists and 2.2 steals per contest. Wilson pours in an additional 10.1 points per game.
Senior forward Jennifer Mathurin is NCSU's top scorer at 11.3 points per game and is shooting 91.7-percent from the free throw line. Mathurin also chips in 4.5 rebounds per contest.
Junior forward Chelsea Nelson chips in 9.5 points per game and a team-best 5.3 rebounds per contest. Senior guard rounds out NCSU's starters with 8.1 points per contest, with most of her points coming on an average of 2.3 made 3-pointers per game for a squad that is swishing nine treys per outing.
NCSU – picked seventh in the ACC preseason polls – is trying to return to the NCAA tournament for the second time under fourth-year head coach Wes Moore (competed in 2014, but missed it in 2015 and 2016).
