BOX SCORE DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University cruised to a 7-0 women's tennis victory over fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) member Hampton University at the NCCU Tennis Courts on a warm Wednesday afternoon.
The Lady Eagles swept singles in straight sets to complete their second straight shutout. NCCU improved to 7-13 overall while the depleted Pirates, who only had four active players, slipped to 2-12.
NCCU notched the first team point with a pair of convincing wins in doubles. The junior duo of
Aissa Muamba and
Mia Ramic took the top flight 8-3 and the senior tandem of
Ekaterina Nekrasova and
Rebecca Wood registered an 8-2 conquest.
Nekrasova and Wood leveled their record together at 9-9 and Muamba and Ramic improved to 7-11.
Hampton forfeited the fifth and sixth singles points to NCCU so Ramic's win at No. 4 singles secured the team victory quickly. Ramic won with impressive set scores of 6-2 and 6-1.
Muamba closed out the next match winning her top singles match 6-2, 6-0. Wood (6-2, 6-3) and Nekrasova (6-0, 6-4) followed in rapid succession. Nekrasova trailed 4-1 in the second set before rallying by winning the next five games.
Muamba and Nekrasova continue to lead the Lady Eagles with matching 14-6 singles records. Wood increased her winning singles ledger to 11-8.
NCCU will conclude the regular season portion of its schedule with two matches over the weekend. The Lady Eagles first visit Elon University on Saturday at Noon before hosting University of Mount Olive during Sunday's Senior Day festivities beginning at 3 p.m.
