NCCU MEN'S TENNIS DROPS ROAD MATCH AT ELON, 6-1

Daniil Gerasimov picks up singles win for the Eagles

BOX SCORE

ELON, N.C. – Senior Daniil Gerasimov won the only three-set tilt of the match to account for North Carolina Central University's only point in a 6-1 road loss against host Elon University Saturday morning at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

The Phoenix won the other five singles matches in straight sets to run away with the team victory. Elon improved to 4-7 overall.
NCCU was unable to pick up consecutive wins on the season in slipping to 1-4.

Gerasimov won his first set, 6-4, in the second flight before Elon senior Jordan Kaufman answered by winning the second set by the identical score. Gerasimov won the opening game of the third set just before the Phoenix clinched the team triumph so the two players went to a superset tiebreaker. The Belgorod, Russia, product kept the momentum and held off Kaufman 10-8 for his third straight singles win.

Gerasimov and senior partner Fabrice George were winning their No. 2 doubles showdown, 5-4, when play stopped after Elon secured the doubles point with wins atop and at bottom of the lineup.

Senior Jamal Hoyte and freshman teammate Kert Kilumets led early in their third tier bout for the Eagles before dropping a close 6-4 set that swayed the opening team point in favor of the host Phoenix.

NCCU returns to the court against Kutztown University in a neutral site duel in Hilton Head, S.C., on Tuesday, March 10 at 11 a.m.
