(written by Genesis Jackson, sports information student intern)DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University can finally taste the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular-season title for the second year in a row after beating Bethune-Cookman University 72-49 on Saturday, Feb. 28 in McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium, where the Eagles have enjoyed 34 consecutive victories.
NCCU (22-6, 14-0 MEAC) senior forward
Jordan Parks amassed game-highs of 20 points and nine rebounds to top four Eagles scoring in double-figures. Senior point guard
Nimrod Hilliard netted 18 points and distributed seven assists for the Eagles, while senior forward
Karamo Jawara added 14 points and junior guard
Dante Holmes had 12 points.
Bethune-Cookman (7-21, 5-9 MEAC) was led by Denzel Dunlin with 15 points.
The Wildcats are the fourth team NCCU has held under 50 points in the month of February. The two other opponents managed 51 and 59 points.
The Eagles shot 57.8 percent from the field (26 of 45), while holding B-CU to 36.2 percent shooting, including only 1-for-11 from long distance.
