BOONE, N.C. – North Carolina Central University senior
Rebecca Wood earned a singles victory and two other matches were decided in a third set, but Appalachian State recorded a 5-1 win over the Lady Eagles in women's tennis action on Sunday inside the Yonahlossee Racquet Club in Boone, North Carolina.
Wood captured her second singles win of the season by beating Brianna Armellino 6-3, 6-4. At No. 1 singles,
Aissa Muamba won the first set 7-5, but dropped the next two sets 6-2, 6-3 to Clare Cox of ASU. After losing the first set at No. 4 singles,
Mia Ramic won the second set 6-3, but slipped in the third set 6-2.
In doubles action, the NCCU duo of
Jamie Rogers and
Lynsey Cover nearly pulled off the victory at the No. 3 position, but lost in a tiebreaker, 7-6.
NCCU drops to 1-5 overall, while Appalachian State improves to 6-3.
Up next, the Lady Eagles host Loyola University on Feb. 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cary (N.C.) Tennis Center.
