Q: Tell us some interesting about yourself that others may not know?
MS: I would rather be out fishing with my dad on any given day and time.
KR: I was born on Friday the 13th and my best friend is my 6 year old nephew.
Q: What do you plan to do after graduating from NCCU?
MS: I want to be a pediatric occupational therapist. The ultimate goal is to be an OT in a public school setting helping the lives of special needs children.
KR: I plan to attend the University of South Florida and complete their PT program
Q: What is your favorite part of match day?
MS: Seeing my nephew at home games. He has only missed a few home games this year. And even though he calls it basketball instead of volleyball, it is still my favorite part of game days.
KR: Pre-game Pelicans with the Trio
Q: Any match-day rituals?
MS: I usually go to The Fresh Market on game days. It is my favorite grocery store. And I get a small coffee and a fruit bowl.
KR: Nothing more than extra sleep and extra loud music
Q: What is your most memorable moment at NCCU?
MS: Flying to Arizona to play. That was the first time my grandparents and family got to see me play in college.
KR: Coach's pep talk at A&T last year in their dungeon of a locker room.
Q: Why did you pick volleyball?
MS: When I was younger soccer was my thing. Soccer was my first love. I resisted loving volleyball because both my sisters played in college and I wanted to be different. My Dad fostered my love for soccer – it was our thing – and when I started playing club and travel soccer he deployed to Iraq at the same time. For me, it hurt to play without my Dad there to see. So I started to get more serious about volleyball and played club volleyball. Somewhere between all the hours spent in the gym and the road, I found happiness on the court. My first year of club, I had an awesome coach. Even though she was tough as nails, in the environment she created and the way I felt when I played, I grew as a player and she uncovered talent that I wasn't aware I had. I knew at that point, I found a skill I wanted to pursue.
KR: Two reasons. It was between Track and Volleyball, but I chose volleyball because I wanted to do a team sport over an individual sport. Second reason was the weather. It gets too hot outside (ha)!
Q: What three words describe you the best?
MS: Trusting, Courageous, Caring
KR: Funny, Giggly, Loud
Q: How would you like to be remembered from your playing days at NCCU?
MS: I would like my teammates to remember me for who I was as a teammate to them. Remember the relationships that have fostered on and off the court. People may forget the way I played, but I am sure they will never forget the way I made them feel. I want to be remembered as always being a good friend to them. I believe that is more important that any skill set I could possess.
KR: I'd like to be remembered as the one who could always bring the team up when we're down. Not only physically on the court, but emotionally. I want to be, 'that girl that used to freak out every time they scored'.
Q: If you could invite any living person to WG Pearson cafeteria for lunch, who would it be and why?
MS: President Obama, to discuss Native American youth and the preservation of sacred lands to indigenous people.
Q: Do you have any famous family members?
KR: I plan to be the first
