#NCCUWBB and Winthrop Both Looking for First Win Saturday


DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's basketball team will conclude the first month of the season with its fourth game in a fourth different state on Saturday when the Lady Eagles play at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
 
Fans can watch the game on the Big South Network or listen to it on the NCCU Sports Network. Winthrop will also be providing live stats for the 1 p.m. class inside the Winthrop Coliseum.
 
NCCU and Winthrop will be playing each other for the seventh consecutive season with Winthrop winning the battle of Eagles each of the first six times.

NCCU has lost its first three games of the season, including its first two games of the squad's current four-game road swing to Nebraska (88-47) and Longwood (60-49). The Lady Eagles will be playing their third Big South foe on Saturday after also losing to Campbell (57-48) in their home opener. Senior forward Tisha Dixon leads NCCU with 11.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Junior Monique Whaley-Briggs (8.3 points/game) has set a new career-high scoring mark in each of the teams last two contests. Junior transfer Chantal Thomas is coming off her best game representing the Maroon and Gray with 13 points. Freshman Dominique Adams is second on the team with 5.7 rebounds per game after pulling down a team-high nine boards against the Lancers.
 
WINTHROP has posted a winning record in its first three seasons under head coach Kevin Cook but has started this season 0-5 with double-digit losses to Oklahoma, Duke, Akron, Ohio and Furman. Junior forward Erica Williams, who reached 1000 career points earlier this season, is a preseason Big South First Team All-Conference selection and is averaging 16.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Classmate Alijah Kilpatrick follows with 10.6 points per game. Freshman Arianne Whitaker chips in 6.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game.
