DURHAM, N.C. – Karen Sanford, head coach of the North Carolina Central University women's bowling team for the past nine seasons, has announced her retirement. She has been the head coach since 2005.

"We are truly appreciative of Coach Sanford's contribution to the growth and development of our women's bowling program," said NCCU director of athletics Dr. Ingrid Wicker-McCree.  "Her loyalty to her alma mater and to her student-athletes exemplifies Eagle Excellence.  We wish her well in her retirement."

Assistant bowling coach Ryan Backus has been named interim head coach until a permanent coach is selected.
