NCCU MEN’S TENNIS CLOSES 2014 SEASON WITH SWEEP OVER UMES

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's tennis team wrapped up the 2014 season as the Eagles (9-11, 04 MEAC) swept the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks (0-13, 0-4 MEAC) 0-7 at home on Thursday, April 16.

During the season finale, NCCU collected the doubles victory after senior Stephan Charles-Donatien and junior Daniil Gerasimov beat the Hawks Kijontary McClay and Wirlen Elame 8-0 and the No. 1 spot followed by a second Eagles victory as the junior duo of Tamina Kienka and Fabrice George retired No. 2 Mohin Uddin and Wayne Heath, 8-1.

Following doubles action NCCU collected two singles victories by default.

Leading UMES 3-0, sophomore Thomas Persico cleared the courts first at the No. 3 after he dismissed Uddin in nearly fifteen minutes (6-0, 6-0).

Gerasimov earned the No. 1 victory over Elame (6-0, 6-0), rookie William East captured the No. 2 win against McClay (6-0, 6-0) and junior Jamal Hoyte defeated Heath (6-1, 6-0) at the No 4.

The Eagles finished out the 2014 season with a 9-11 record overall and 0-4 during Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action.
